REACH – Regulation on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemical Substances

On June 1, 2007, EU Regulation No. 1907/2006 (REACH) went into effect. The regulation will gradually be phased in, with full implementation scheduled to be completed by June 2018.

The regulation stipulates that substances either produced in Europe, or imported into the EU, at an annual volume of one ton or more be registered with the European Chemicals Agency.

Substances already on the market (“phase-in substances” – for example, our oils) are subject to a temporary provision, as long as they were pre-registered in the period between June 1 and December 1, 2008. Pre-registered substances have to be registered at a later point in time, which differs according to their category.

Some substances are also exempt from (pre-) registration, particularly those cited in Annexes I and II of Regulation (EC) 987/2008 amending Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH Regulation). Most products manufactured by Gustav Heess GmbH can claim such an exemption. At the same time, all Gustav Heess GmbH products subject to REACH have been pre-registered by the company.

Gustav Heess GmbH endorses the fundamental goals of the REACH Regulation, as these are in harmony with our own policies for promoting responsible use of our products.

Ms. Fischer will be happy to answer any further questions you may have about REACH.
